National French Competition 19th March 2012

This your our Year 7 pupils have been offered the opportunity of participating in the National French Competition to be held on Monday 19th March 2012 at Taverham Hall School from 10:05 – 10:45 hours.

Those Year 7 pupils who have chosen to participate in this year’s Grand Défi will sit a 30 minute test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions.

The Grand Défi test is developed as a motivational, extra-curricular activity for pupils of French. It helps stimulate an interest in the learning of French and identifies and rewards achievement on the part of pupils. All those who enter will receive a certificate to show that they have taken part. There are also prizes for all participants. Those whose scores represent the top scores nationally receive a prestigious prize.

The Norfolk Children’s Book Centre is a local book shop, based in Alby and has some very knowledgeable and enthusiastic members of staff, who are book experts. Their expertise and enthusiasm will be invaluable in selecting the ‘right’ book for and with your child, in making book suggestions and in providing reading tips.

During class and breaktimes, pupils will be given the opportunity to come and browse and purchase books.

Parents from the Pre-Prep and Prep school are welcome to come and browse, ask questions or purchase books from:

ICT Animation12 National Competition

Animation12 is a National Competition open to school children aged 7-19. You have to design an animation about a topic that you are learning / have learnt at school.  Winners receive prizes such as laptops.

There are a number of programmes that you can use to make your animation:

  • Alice
  • Blender
  • Flash
  • Koolmoves
  • Scratch
  • Serifs
  • Swish Max 4 

Our Head of ICT, Mr Pengilley, strongly suggests that you use Scratch – it is something which you have experience in!

There are also a number of rules, which can be found on this website http://bit.ly/okkdUpplease make sure you read them all.

 A brief summary of the most important rules;

  • YOU or your GROUP (no more than 4 people) must make this animation. Not your ICT teacher or your parents.
  • Your animation must not be interactive (Think movie, not game).
  • Your animation must be no more than 1 minute long.
  • It must be about a topic you are / have studied at school

Your entries for the competition must be submitted before midnight on 23rd March 2012.

Mr Pengilley will be running a weekly break time club on Wednesdays for those of you who have entered this exciting competition.
