Social Evening Friday 9th March 2012

The Friends of Taverham Hall School invite all parents, grandparents and friends to attend our Spring Term event on Friday 9th March from 7pm which this year is to be a Social Evening with games and a Chinese meal provide by Lucky House.

This is a new initiative designed to draw areas of the school together for an evening where parents can play, chat, eat and drink!

We are planning a Table Tennis tournament in ‘Big School’ and board games and activities in the drawing room. There is no obligation to take part in any games, you can simply come along and chat with friends over a glass of wine (or two!) and enjoy a delicious Chinese. If you have any favourite board/card games or activities please bring them along and share them with your friends.

The cost is just £10 per head which covers the cost of your meal. A bar will be provided where you can purchase drinks.

Please fill in the slip below and return it, with payment to The Friends box in Prep School (on wall near the Matrons’ surgery) or in the Pre-Prep library as soon as possible. Numbers are limited and tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

We look forward to welcoming you all!

Taverham Hall Top Draw Launch!

The Taverham Hall Top Draw is based on the age old 100 club but we intend to tweak this idea somewhat. We aim to have 400 members who will be playing both as individuals but also as teams of four.

How does it Work?

Firstly we hope parents, guardians, friends and former pupils of Taverham Hall School will get together three friends or relatives who will join them to create a team of four. Every month each team member will play as individuals and a draw will be made in the Outer Hall with ten prizes available ranging from £50 to a first prize of £500 (providing we are fully subscribed) - all the winners will be posted in this news section each month. In addition, every Christmas, if your team has remained complete all year, an extra draw will be made with a bonus prize of £1,000 to be shared amongst the winning team.

So how much will it cost?

Not as much as you think. Entry into the monthly draw is £10 (which equates to 30p per day) for each individual member which will be collected at the beginning of each month by direct debit. There is nothing extra to pay for the team bonus draw at the end of the year.

What do I need to do now?

All you need to do is find 3 other players from your family or circle of friends and then all four of you fill in a direct debit form each and return them to the school office. Each member will then receive a membership booklet with their individual number and team name written on the front.

The official first Top Draw is planned for February 2012 so make sure you hand your forms in soon!

Where are the proceeds going?

All proceeds will go to the school’s ‘Annual Fund’ which has been set up to help fund some of the larger capital items for the benefit of all pupils at Taverham Hall School.

However, we also want to have some fun and create an extra buzz by offering some big prizes that are worth talking about and to do this we need EVERYONE involved. So please get your team together now and get signed up. If fully subscribed we will give away nearly £20,000.00 in prize money in the first year, and the odds of winning a prize each month will be 1 in 40, which beats the lottery hands-down. It could be you cashing that first cheque in February for £500…..and maybe March too!

Fantastic fireworks at Taverham Hall School

Another hugely popular bonfire night took place on the 3rd of November  which was extremely well attended. Our thanks go to staff, parents and The Friends’ Society who worked extremely hard to ensure its success.

The grounds team of Mike Skipper, Terry Havis and David Brown deserve a special mention for all their efforts and of course to Mr Mike Chapman who organised the wonderful firework display for the fourth year in succession!

Expansion of Chapel Choir – Calling Singers!

Our Director of Music, William Drew-Batty is planning to introduce Alto, Tenor and Bass parts to the existing Chapel Choir for special events.

This new move will greatly extend the repertoire of the choir and our choristers will benefit from singing with adults. We have many parents who have experience of singing in a choir, even if they are a bit rusty! We also have ex pupils of the school who have continued singing at their senior school.

It is hoped that the ‘full’ choir would sing at events such as the Christmas Carol Service, and a local concert in the Spring or Summer terms.

The level of commitment would require singers to meet for a number of rehearsals before each event at a convenient time during the school term. The idea is to rehearse the adult choir separately with perhaps one or two rehearsals with the full choir.

If you are interested please contact William Drew-Batty at the school, headofmusic@taverhamhall.co.uk for a chat.

The choir goes from strength to strength and the choristers are making an excellent sound. Don’t miss this great opportunity to contribute to the rich musical life of Taverham Hall!

We look forward to hearing from you.

Bag2School Collection Appeal

The Friends of Taverham Hall School are, once again, collecting for charity adults and children’s clothing, bedding, shoes, belts and handbags.  All items are for RE-USE.  The Friends are paid according to weight and last year raised hundreds of pounds for our children’s benefit from Bag2School.

Their next collection is on Tuesday 11 October 2010.

If you have not already done so, please start having a sort through now for the October collection.  This is a great opportunity to donate all those clothes that the family have grown out of, or that will not make another winter.  Shoes, bedding, curtains, soft toys, belts and handbags can also be donated, but no bric-a-brac, mats, pillows or duvets please.

The Friends will send out a reminder with a bag over the next few weeks but any sort of bag is acceptable.

Whole School Bonfire Night and Firework Display

On Thursday 3rd November we will be organising our very popular whole school Bonfire Night again from 18:00 hours onwards. Food and drinks will be on sale as well as glow sticks etc.

Please note that fireworks from home are not permitted (including sparklers).

Keep this date free in your diary and join us for another spectacular firework display!

Friends’ AGM & Quiz and Chips Night

We warmly invite all parents to the Friend’s annual AGM and their popular Quiz and Chips Night which will take place on Friday 25 November from 18:00 hours in the Dining Hall.

Taverham Hall’s very own Mr Newton will be making a welcome guest appearance as quiz master. The quiz will start at 19:00 hours.

School Fete

The annual school fete, organised by the Friends, took place after the Pre-Prep Sports Day and was another huge success.

Hot dogs were  served courtesy of Mr Davies being popular along with Soak the Scholar. The gap students (and Matron Ives!) made excellent targets and were extremely good sports considering the weather. The atmosphere was great. The tombola sold out as did the “Just the ticket” stall with all prizes being won. The ladies on the tea stall battled with a reluctant urn but did a grand job.The cakes in particular were a dream with several finding their way into mums’ bags rather than the stall!

More fun was had at the Egg Throwing and Coconut stalls as can be seen from the photos below.

The school’s Year 8 pupils’ help was volunteered and much needed. All were enthusiastic and willing to listen, so well done to the Year 8′s.

A big thank you must go to Mike Skipper and the grounds staff team who arranged for everything to be where it needed to be and to those parents who loaned marquees for the day and our dedicated gang of Friends and volunteers, who under supervision of Craig Martin constructed tents and set up tables and chairs.

Our thanks go to the Friends and all parents, staff and pupils who helped to make this such an enjoyable afternoon.

Summer Fete Friday 27th May @ 3pm
