Many come back for the OT Hog Roast

The OT Hog Roast which took place on Sunday 6th May was a real success with many OTs coming back to mark this special occasion for former pupils of Taverham Hall.

We were particularly honoured to have one of our oldest OTs, Mr Walter Page, and his family attending. Walter was a pupil at Taverham Hall from 1924 – 1928 and it was wonderful to hear some of his stories. Some of our younger OTs left some lovely messages in the classrooms for several of those teachers who were unable to attend on the day itself.

Stewart Orr who was at the school from 1953-1959 sums up the day as follows:

“A brief note to thank you for the splendid reunion on Sunday. One of the best there’s been for a long time – if not ever!   I was impressed with the general good manners and consideration for us old ones given by the young.   It felt very old-fashioned, and very pleasant, and something that THS has always stood for!”

Special thanks go to Lisa Green, the school’s new OT Liaison Officer, who organised this event. Many OTs provided Lisa with some good ideas for future OT events and should you wish to help or assist in any way with our OT Society than please contact Lisa via ot@taverhamhall.co.uk

The Roaring 20s Jubilee Ball

280 guests attended Taverham Hall School’s 90th Jubilee Ball “The Roaring 20s” on Saturday 5th May.

During this spectacular evening guests were treated on arrival to a  welcome drinks reception on the crescent drive whilst a vintage Tiger Moth and classic ex-RAF Chipmunk plane flew up the drive and over the beautiful school grounds in formation. The school’s very own jazz pianist Jonathan Dodd and his Bass accompaniment, Nick Moore provided the intro during the reception whilst the evening’s music was provided by the world’s best travelling live band The Gypsy Queens, who have performed for celebrities such as David Beckham, Prince Harry, Elton John and H.R.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.

1920s style photographs were taken by Debby Besford and caricaturist Peter Kavanagh provided a memento of the night for many. Much fun was had in the casino lounge where many guests tried their luck with some ‘fun money’.

Catering was provided by Bespoke at The Crown and the ball was organised with the assistance of Softley Events Management.

Funds generated from the ball during the auction, silent auction and raffle will support a number of projects which will directly enhance the experience and broaden the life of the pupils at Taverham Hall.

The school recognise just how much hard work has gone into the preparation for the ball and are deeply grateful to the Development Committee and the entire Ball Committee who have worked tirelessly in recent months.

The Roaring 20s has become an amazing memorable evening!

Crows’ Winning House Supper

Crows were the worthy victors of the Spring Term, determined by the number of reds, conduct reds and subject commendations across the school. We were delighted also to welcome representatives from each of the other houses, who made speeches congratulating the winners! Mr and Mrs Crossley were also on hand to help with arrangements and celebrate the winning house. Many thanks to the Catering team, who prepared a special meal in the drawing room, which we followed with a number of table-games and, overall, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Mr Hamilton’s impression of a crow, dressed in his best ‘white tie’ will stay with us all from some time! Great to have such supportive staff; Miss Chapman, Mrs Rust, Matron Ives, and Mr Gorham all joined in and helped make the evening such fun.

Owls win the House Netball competition!

These matches involving girls in Years 5 to 8 were keenly contested as always with a good deal of determination from one and all.

Sadly the favourites, Hawks, started at a distinct disadvantage by being 2 players short. However, after a brief discussion it was unanimously decided by the pupils themselves, that the Year 5s not involved because of large numbers in their own houses, should become Hawks for the afternoon. This meant that all the girls were involved in the games and also that Hawks had a full, albeit young, side.

Final scores:

1st  and unbeaten, Owls

2nd Wrens

3rd Hawks

4th Crows

Outstanding players on this afternoon:

Year 7 pupils Louisa, Harriet and Amelia

with a fantastic effort from:

Year 5 pupils Anna and Tilly

The bravery prize goes to:

Year 8 pupil, Charlotte and Year 5 pupil Georgia

Well done to everyone!

Our 90th jubilee is clearly a very special time for Taverham Hall School and we would be delighted to see as many of our current parents, OTs, friends and their families at the above events.

Crows win the House Swimming Gala once more!

This week’s House swimming gala was probably the most closely fought event anyone can remember. It all came down to the final race with Crows edging out Wrens by a solitary point!

Congratulations to Mrs Steed for her organisation of the event, matching times and pupils all the way down to ‘F level’ races. It really was a fabulous event and our thanks go to all involved.
